PATRICIA VONNE
I first became aware of Patricia Vonne when we both resided in New York City a few years back. I was impressed with her relaxed stage presence and her obvious communication skills with her audiences; not to mention her vocal, songwriting, guitar, and castanet (yes, castanets) chops. It was New York's loss when she and half of her band moved back to Austin where they are still based. Be sure to plan your trip to Austin when Patricia and her band are playing. Her Day Job gig is being a successful real estate agent, in case you happen to be relocating there.
PHILLIP MARTIN
One of my favorite jazz artists for many years - I first heard one of his hits on a late night plane while enjoying a glass of wine. While researching his bio, much to my surprise, I found out that sax player Philip "Doc" Martin is a working dentist.

STEVE VAUS
Steve Vaus is a singer-songwriter who sometimes goes by the stage name of Buck Howdy. He has written and recorded for RCA Nashville and MCA Nashville. Vaus is a multi-talented artist who has won accolades for a multitude of genres including country and children's songs. I discovered Vaus after searching high and low for information on the author of a beautiful r&b song called "Everybody Told Me," that is featured throughout the Spanish Netflix series 'Velvet'. (Now, he is all over the internet. Apparently "Everybody Told Me" had a similar effect on other people, too.) His Day Job has been as the mayor of Poway, California. He is currently running for the 2020 San Diego County District 2 Board of Supervisors. Read more about Steve Vaus:
DAVID GRANT
The first artist in my series on musicians with day jobs, David Grant, has aptly named his first album "First Flight". Because, after all, he is a commercial airline pilot. I ran into David at the San Francisco International Airport, and he was kind enough to talk with me about having a day job and playing music. He takes his guitar with him wherever he goes, so there is no music down-time when he is away from home. He gave me a copy of his CD. It is truly amazing. Check out the musicians that played on it. The arrangements are instrumental journeys into realms not ever taken on the cover songs. His originals are delicate, well-thought-out pieces that convey a lot of feeling. Check it out:
