Pamela Rose Vocal Blues Jams at the California Jazz Conservatory, Berkeley, CA: Very supportive, great back-up band. Check the schedule for these once a month or so Sunday night jams. www.pamelarose.com

Legends, Chicago, IL: Blues Jam every Monday night. A really fun place to play. The jam is superceded one month of the year when Buddy is in town to play. $10 cover. http://buddyguy.com/calendar.cfm

Northside Tavern, Atlanta, GA: Blues Jam every Monday night, usually hosted by Miss Lola, who is no slouch on the keyboard and vocals. The musicians are good. Worth checking out. (This place was once voted the Best Dive Bar. They do not serve martinis.) www.northsidetavern.com

Cafe Artichoke, Portland, OR: Every Thursday night (alternates every other Thursday with original songwriters night and known songwriters' theme nights). Gorgeous acoustics and a nice stage and room. Like at The Bluebird - no talking, only listening while performers play. $5 cover. http://www.artichokemusic.org
